Lednice-valtice Cultural Landscape
Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape has been a part of the UNESCO World List since 1996. Its area is the largest created landscape in the world with the area of 283.09 square kilometers. It lies in the county of Breclav.
Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape is located in Morava (part of the Czech Rebublic), close to the Lower Austria. It was formed in the 18th and 19th centuries by the Lichtenstein family. The country looked completely differently before it was being continuously changed. It was open woodland with many streams of the Dyje river. The building of the landscape was not only the aesthetics matter but also the protection from the floods. Nowadays there are three small town in the area itself, Lednice, Valtice and Hlohovec. Its part is also men made forest called Bori les, Lednice fishponds and a part of floodplain forest by the Dyje river. There are two main castles here: Lednice and Valtice Castle and many other smaller places called “salety”: Rajstna, Belveder, Rendevous, St. Hubert chapel, Boundary castle, Three Graces, Fishing castle, New Yard, Apollon temple, Hunting castle, John’s castle, Minaret, Obelisk, Pohansko and Lany Castle.
The visitors of Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape can do many different activities. At first there are beautiful gardens and parks suitable for long walks. Visitors who like to be more active cad ride a bike on never-ending cycling paths. Other possibility is to float on the Dyje river. Last but not least, it is the land of vineyards, so everybody can go wine-tasting.
