Statue of Andrew Carnegie stands in Dunfermline’s Pittencrieff Park. Andrew Carnegie, a business magnate, industrialist, entrepreneur and philanthropist, was born here, in Dunfermline on 25 November 1835. He was one of the most famous leaders of industry of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He emigrated to the USA with his parents when he was a child. His first job was as a factory worker and he eventually made it to establish Carnegie Steel Company. This later emerged with other companies and created U. S. Steel. With money he made he turned into philanthropy and founded Carnegie Corporation of New York, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Carnegie Mellon University and the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh. He used most of his fortune to established many libraries and schools in the United States and Great Britain and as well as a pension fund for former employees. He is being regarded and the second richest man in history. He is a typical example of “rags to riches”. He died on 11 August 1919 in United States.
